• Windows updates

I know we all need windows updates. It's what keeps our pc secure, but man I hate the way Windows does it. Make you restart your computer, every stinking time. I know the only time, linux restarts is when there is a kernal update. So on my main pc, I hardly ever have to restart. I think, my uptime is around 11 days right now. I can't go a week without having to restart the virtual machine on that runs my bbs.

I you have the PRO or ENTERPRISE versions you can delay the updates for a while. But, not to log ago I found a regedit file that will set the days of the next update check to like 9999 days. Effectively turning it off thus allowing you to manually check yourself. Google it, you will find it I'm sure. I don't remember where I got it.

Eh yeah. Windows updates suck like that.
If you run your server based stuff on an os like NetBSD or FreeBSD you can get real long uptimes.
Those systems don't upgrade the kernels much.
Those are different animals than what you are probably use too so there would be a learning curve involved.

I use Linux as a daily driver. I am by no means a Linux guru, though. That's why Hobbyspace isn't running on a linux distro. I tried to set it up, but kept getting error after error. I even followed the directions, that digital man showed on his youtube video. It was always an issue with permissions, lol. I did get it to run in a docker, but modding from a docker was a real pain.

If you want to use a system that will just run and run that installs Synchronet well try Slackware 15.0.
This distro has all of the libraries required to build from the get go.
