• Fake portable ssd

My buddy gave me an ssd today at work. The box advertises 16 tb. I got home and plugged it in, and it wasn't able to recognize the drive. So I dug in to figure out what the issue was. I went to terminal, typed sudo apt update, supdo apt install gparted. I opened up the device and tried to make a partition and it gave me a major error. So I was like, I wonder if I can just mount the real available space on there. Gparted wouldn't let me do it. Unfortunitly, the who drive is a brick. I got my hopes up, and got let down. I appreciate the free gift. He meant well, but he didn't know anything about it. I didn't pay for it, so I guess, I'm not at a loss.

...You've got to miss them to score sometimes.

Dude.. that's 16TB! Don't give up! Did you try it on another operating system? Maybe try Windows Computer Manager and read the drives. If you see it use dispart and use clean then set it up. Might have a filesystem your system can't read.

I'm not getting rid of it. I'll keep fooling around with it...I mean why not. I found an nvidia 8800gts in my roommates spare room. He isn't using it. It was made by evga. I am going to put it in this linux pc I am using too. I think those things were real beasts back in the day. So why not put it to use lol?

I been seeing a bunch of fake SSDs and GPUs online. One had the case for an SSD with a small thumb drive in it. They changed the FW to show it had lots of storage, but it was like a 2GB thumb drive :D

Hey dude, I've got a buddy who did the exact same thing.
He got a 4 TB drive some type of ssd or flash.
It works in windows but not linux in any way.
It is also really slow. I would not trust my data to the thing.

I wonder why it won't work in Linux, but will in windows. Like, it detects the drive and everything. Got me stumped over here. Besides, it was free, so it's not like I'm at a loss. It would be nice to have one though.

Might be the EFI partition.. That's why you have to use the "clean" command in DOS using the dispart program. It will wipe the EFI out.

HAHA good ideah man. I'll try that, why not? If it works that's free space. I wont put any important stuff on it.
