  • QWK and FIDONET

    I am happy to report it looks like the QWK packet network between our systems is working perfect from my perspective!

    It was a learning experience for sure and MANY hours of trouble shooting, testing, cursing and walking away pissed only to come back to try again. I'm starting to post longer things on the HobbySpc area since things will be going to over systems and we want engagement.

    I manually added the long files names and descriptions to my side of the HobbySpc message areas and they look good. Ya we did it, it's working.

    Also, tonight I FINALLY figured out FidoNet and it's working as expected and I gained almost 1000 messages back from the Zone 1 hub in Canada in one shot - that was cool seeing those come in. This was probably one of the most difficult things to figure out, so far, and hopefully it will stay working. If you want to get FidoNet running on your system I can help you for sure. It will save you weeks on headaches since I already went through it. - LOL. To me, it seems to give a bbs a little bit more "clout" if you know what I mean. And helps bring folks to your system and engage them more. Of course it's only 1 thing of many, many other things we all need to do to our BBS's - LOL!

    It takes a week or so to get your FidoNet node address. You will have to email the Zone 1 Regional Coordinator Mike Luko and then request a feed from Zone 1 Hub Nick Andre from Darkrealms BBS (he's in charge on all of North America). Once you get connected with them it's fairly fast to configure on SBBS and I can send you all my screen shots of the configurations to help it go fast and make sure it works well. There's 242 message areas and then the new messages start arriving the moment you start it up but can't get any older messages. I have tried and tried. So, some of your areas will be empty for a bit until posts start happening around the globe and they come in. Come check out my FidoNet area and you will see. We will take it slow and avoid stress. Maybe start in a couple days if you want. FidoNet is a global huge network.
