    Hello Nick!

There's a post here by Rob to Vitaliy from 2 years ago using
Golded+ with no problems with the date of the replied-to message...

I don't know what to tell you. I see that message, too. Maybe it
happened during the updates that occurred after that message..? If you
can find it, try the version Rob used in that post dated 20240303.

Either way, I have the same time/date issue here as well when I lock
Golded onto my Synchronet message areas, rather than my JAM ones. So I
would be interested in seeing a fix for it, also.

I've tried with several GoldED+ versions from different compilation dates -- same result.

I've also seen several posts from some other sysops using GoldED+ with SMB back in 2021 that apparently didn't have any issues with the date/time.

So, I suspect something has changed recently in how Synchronet stores the date/time in the messagebase.

What's curious is that Synchronet (terminal, ecweb4, nntp) has no trouble reading the date/time of messages posted locally using GoldED+. It's like if there are two ways to store it (old and new) and SBBS supports both, but GoldED+ cannot handle the new one.

Now that you mention this.. I remember something similar to this being said to me when I asked about it. I may have even forwarded that information from Rob to Vitaliy at the time, since he was working on fixing actual access to the message bases at the time.

Very possible. Your best bet would be to confirm this with Rob. I remember bits and pieces of our conversation awhile back (this could have been around the same time, or shortly thereafter, as the message you brought up from a couple years ago) in regards to everything odd I could find with Golded and Synchronet. When I realized the current Golded devs didn't have the time (or interest, really), I moved on to something else.

    Regards,
    Nick

Can we get some summary, like whom to blame GoldED or SBBS?

Ideally, the GoldED+ project would have used SMBLIB directly from the Synchronet source repo. That's not how it was implemented, instead the SMBLIB code was copied/forked - so it doesn't benefit from any upstream changes (enhancements or bug fixes). Using SMBLIB as a static library built from the Synchronet source repo would be the right solution and fix more than one issue with GoldEd+ interoperability and Synchronet Message Bases (SMB).
